Blisters, originally uploaded by martinbruce54.
Pain is a part of the Camino.
These are some of the worst blisters I have ever seen in my life. They belong to Ida, whom I introduced to you in the last blog. Those are not pads on the balls of her feet–those are blisters all along the bottom of her feet! And on her toes. And on her heels!! Almost made me sick!
I last had seen her in Villamayor de Monjardin, the Dutch hostel where my daughter, Adrienne, had served. Her feet were really hurting then, and so she decided to mail her pack ahead with a delivery service and then try to walk. I didn’t think she would make it, and I did not see her again for 5 days.
She amazingly reappeared in Burgos, and came hobbling in. I gave her a big hug, and then I did my pastor thing. I had met a nurse along the way that was tending to someone’s blisters. I went and found her and asked her to take care of Ida. They went searching (on a Sunday when EVERYTHING is closed) for some antibiotics, and I left her there being treated. The nurse said she had bad boots that were in part the cause, so she needed to get some running shoes.
I hope to see Ida again. And I hope her feet are better. What a trooper!

that is unbelievable.
and so very painful looking….
I hope she made it. She sounded like a tough woman. They look like they could explode!
